The concept of band broadening is explained using the van Deemter equation. The factors that contribute to the band broadening effect are eddy diffusion (A), longitudinal diffusion (B) and mass transfer of the analyte in the stationary phase (Cs). The animations illustrate how each of the factors cause band broadening.
